Venture funding in the clean technology space has significantly increased over the last quarter. Venture capital funding hit the highest level in two years mainly due to biotech and alternative energy. The improving IPO market will be one factor that will help to generate interest in clean technology financing.

An article from the Dow Jones Newswire states that private equity investors bring their own alpha. According to a study by the London Business School and HEC in Paris, private equity alpha contributed almost 5% to the performane of private equity funds.

Businessweek has an article on the fall and rise of REIT investing and makes the case for real estate investments. The article mentions that finance markets are working better now than a year ago and that commercial real estate already took a hit and bounced back. Some of the REITs mentioned are Avalon Bay, Simon Property, and Starwood.

Harvard, Columbia and Duke are beating down values as they try to dump their shares in private equity funds. Harvard has one of the largest endowments at over $36 billion and their secondary sales may overwhelm the small market segment.

The markets posted the biggest post-election drop ever today. It’s really more of an Obama centered crash than other economic factors. The increased capital gains tax and other Obama proposals are likely to cause many to flee the market before december 31st of this year.

T. Boone Pickens has met with Obama to discuss possible energy policies. This is similar to a meeting that he had with McCain just one week ago. Pickens is the founder of BP Capital and is also a billionaire who helped fund the Swift Boat Veterans.
